Cutting fitting sheets into flat sheets
What this entails: cutting out the elastics and slicing the corners of fitted sheets so it lays flat. This can be completed at our facility or a take home task!
Re-sizing Comforters
What this entails: Cutting comforters into small sections and hemming the edges. This helps us utilize comforters to better fit our Kuranda beds plus be easier on our washers!
Repairing our Whelping Pen cover
What this entails: Using heavy duty thread to repair a split seam and to reattach adjustable velcro pieces.
This appliance is huge and old but has served us well! It is the only dryer we have and is used everyday for nearly 10 hours per day; it just needs some specialized repairs.
Repairing holes in the metal mesh drum
The Issue: There are multiple holes in the drum that cause small items to fall through and/or get stuck where they shouldn't be.
The Solution: Applying metal patches over the holes to eliminate this concern. There have been patch jobs done previously by an unknown person and they have stood the test of time!
Repairing the flat spot in the drum motor
The Issue: When starting up the dryer, we need to manually spin the drum (think Price is Right style), quickly close the door, hit start and hope the momentum from the spin allows for the drum to catch and keep spinning. If this not done in a perfectly synchronized motion or we try to use the standard method of closing the door then press start, the drum lays stationary, the dryer buzzes and the breaker trips.
The Solution: we were told by a very reliable source that there is a flat spot on the motor that is the route cause of this issue. We need a professional to re-build the motor so we can go back to simply pressing start!
Finding a replacement door latch
The Issue: The original latch was a plastic piece that worn down over time. We have not been able to find a proper replacement and currently use a baby latch to secure the door. However, the high heat has resulted in the baby latch sticky pad losing grip and needing to be replaced regularly.
The Solution: we are open minded! If a proper latch cannot be found, bolting on the baby latch may be the most reasonable solution.
Emergency Lighting
The Issue: We have multiple wired in emergency lights that are not working properly
The Solution: A qualified electrician to help us sort out the issue and provide a solution!
Adjustments to PA speakers
The Issue: There are speakers in the ceilings throughout the facility which would be great utilize to provide calming sounds for our animals. However, there is one volume control and speakers in our cat areas sound louder than those in our dog wing. The volume needed for the cat areas result in the sounds being inaudible in the dog wing.
The Solution: We are told that the speakers may be able to be adjusted individually so the difference in volume between the two areas can be balanced. We would love for someone with the skills in this area to come check it out!
Repairing the cabinet doors
The Issue: We have multiple doors where the front and back panels have separated and make them difficult to close.
The Solution: Duct tape has worked temporarily but wears overtime and construction glue has also failed us! We aren’t sure the exact solution, but if you have skills of bonding stainless steel, we are open to suggestions.
Repairing the cabinet drawers
The Issue: We have multiple drawers
that are sticky upon opening/closing.
The Solution: We have tried WD-40, however it hasn't fully rectified the issue so it might be related to alignment. Again, we aren’t sure the exact solution, but if you have ideas, we are open to suggestions.
Re-vamping the retail section in our front lobby; we have a vision and need help bringing it to life!
What this entails: We are looking for donations to purchase of specific types of hangers/shelves/brackets and a carpenter to pull the vision together to give a finished product that is functional & durable!
Reattaching the metal grate back to the frame
The Issue: The metal grate has detached from the frame on one side of our beloved Gorilla cart that we use to move hundreds of pounds of food and litter weekly!
The Solution: We are not experts but we can tell you the frame is made of powder- coated steel and we are hoping someone knows how to save this highly useful piece of equipment (this baby has a 1200lbs "towing" capacity!!)
