Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association is looking for an experienced, organized and confident Animal Care Coordinator (ACC) to help lead the day-to-day operations of our Animal Care Team.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who is comfortable working right alongside the team; handling animals, cleaning kennels, solving problems, assigning tasks and making sure the day keeps moving.
The ACC serves as the daily floor leader for the Animal Care Team, with a primary focus on supporting and coordinating our Dog Team. Working closely with the Animal Care Team Lead (ACTL), the ACC helps ensure established care plans, procedures and priorities are carried out consistently and that team members have the direction and support they need throughout their shift.
What You’ll Do
- Direct and prioritize the Animal Care Team’s daily workload
- Assign tasks and adjust priorities as the needs of the animals and facility change
- Work hands-on alongside team members during daily animal care and cleaning
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching and problem-solving support
- Monitor task completion and ensure established SOPs and care plans are followed
- Take a primary leadership role within the Dog Team, including daily care, handling, enrichment and behaviour support
- Help identify changes in animal health or behaviour and escalate concerns appropriately
- Support the implementation of medical and behavioural care plans developed with the ACTL and veterinary team
- Coordinate and support volunteers working within animal care
- Assist with animal records, documentation and BPATS entry as required
- Work collaboratively with the ACTL on complex medical, behavioural and animal-management cases involving both dogs and cats
- Help maintain a safe, clean, efficient and positive working environment
What We’re Looking For
The right person is someone who can lead from the floor rather than from behind a desk. You should be comfortable giving direction, holding people accountable and jumping in wherever help is needed.
You’ll be a strong fit if you:
- Have previous supervisory or management experience (required)
- Have experience working with dogs in a shelter, rescue, kennel, veterinary, daycare, training or similar environment
- Are confident handling dogs with a range of sizes, energy levels and behaviours
- Can organize people and tasks in a busy, constantly changing environment
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, volunteers and the public
- Are comfortable providing direction, feedback and coaching
- Can recognize when a concern needs to be escalated
- Have strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Can remain calm and make practical decisions during challenging situations
- Are comfortable with cleaning, animal waste, noise and the physical realities of shelter work
- Are able to perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, lifting and handling animals throughout the day
- Are available to work weekends and holidays as required
- Experience with positive-reinforcement dog handling or training, shelter medicine, animal behaviour or animal welfare is considered an asset.
If you enjoy being in the middle of the action, supporting a team and making sure animals receive consistent, high-quality care every single day, we’d love to hear from you!
